We thank bro. Cornelius Ting for his encouraging sermon on “The Grace of God” last Sunday. This morning bro. Jayson Leong will preach on the topic “Are You a Friend of God?” at our Combined Worship with bro. Steven Tham as translator. Please stay back after church service this afternoon for our Agape Feast Luncheon. Do bring your loved ones/ friends to worship with us every Sunday.

Brother Wong Wee Loke will continue the study in the new series -- “Strengthening Your Grip”. This morning’s lesson is “On Purity. Food for Thought: “Your old evil desires were nailed to the cross with him; that part of you that loves to sin was crushed and fatally wounded, so that your sin-loving body is no longer under sin’s control, no longer needs to be a slave to sin ….. Do not let sin control your puny body any longer; do not give in to its sinful desires. Do not let any part of your bodies become tools of wickedness, to be used for sinning; but give yourselves completely to God – every part of you – for you are back from death and you want to be tools in the hands of God, to be used for his good purposes” (Roman. 6:6, 12-13, TLB). Please bring your children punctually for the Sunday’s Children/Youth Class to be taught the Bible every week.

Welcome to our honoured guests last Sunday: Franklin & Anna Francis (Klang); Wen Dee Tan (Tess’ friend), Eric Comiso (Tess’ brother), Ana Marie Dacasin (Eric’s friend); Elsie Addamag (Gemma’s friend); Raymond, Vanessa, Zhen Hua & Zhen Gie Wong and Mary Chan (Puchong), Edmond Krishnamoorthy (Perth, Australia); Rachel Tan and sons Jun San & Jun Hsu (Penang) who worshipped with us.

Please pray for brethren who are away: Francis & Winnie (Penang); Joel Tan (Maldives); sister Eunice Tan - expecting her first child; Madam Lee See Mooi (Lay Ling’s mother) – recuperating from knee replacement surgery at home; Brother Norm Jensen – recuperating from a complicated fusion of 2 disks in California; sister Nalini – heart problems; Chan Lay Har (Bedok Singapore) – recuperating from major stroke; Yee Pin – Parkinson’s Disease; Wong See Keok, Tan Swee Yoke, Choy Foong’s mother, Bawani’s father, Tan Yoke Ying, sister Thoo – health concerns. Please inform the church staff if you are away/ travelling, or have prayer concerns, so that the PJ church may know your whereabouts and include you in our weekly prayer list.

We are thankful and praising God for Norm’s steady healing and improvement and that he does not need a second surgery. Thank you for holding him up in prayer in past weeks and as he continues the healing process in the months ahead.”

21st Aug: Dearest Brethren, Attended Highlands Street Church of Christ in Memphis yesterday, the church I attended (when It was in old location at Highland Street) 28 years ago. The church has 1000 members with multiplied services. I can only recognized 2 folks (there may be others) – The Cambodian caretaker Rheim and one of their ministers, Larry McKenzie. Attended the traditional church building services at different times (same sermon) and 2 Bible classes. Met Sam Leow, a fellow Malaysian who is one of the elders of this congregation. Chapel will begin shortly and I will have my first class this afternoon. Folks in Memphis and Nashville are excited over the solar eclipse at 1.00 pm this afternoon. Weather is hot like Malaysia at this time of the year 34 degrees. Harding staff and students here are nice, friendly and helpful.
30th Aug.: Dearest Brethren, Been in Memphis almost two weeks and things have been great. Classes are excellent especially when I am auditing – not so stressful but a lot of reading. Met many folks that I have known over the years since here: Steven Gaines, Miles Cotham (drove from Nashville), Larry McKenzie, Dr. Philip Slate and his wife Pat, Philip Craig & family (furlough from Nepal/India), Betty Dollar (widow of Joe Canon). Talked over the phone with Don Green, Gordon Hogan, John Lim, Lee Ming Paul, Tan Kok Hai, San Tin, Anthony Santiago, Charles Bishop, Shane Lopez, Enoch Thweatt (see him tomorrow). San Tin will drive from Nashville (3 hours drive). Will attend the ACU Lectureship and Harding Lectureship next month in Texas and Arkansas respectively. Expect to meet more familiar folks while there. Will fly to see Shane and Sigang Lopez end of September and may drive to British Columbia while there to visit Ming Paul. Just been invited to preach in Ames, Iowa by Anthony Santiago for 2 Sundays during the Thanksgiving week in November. Will speak at HST chapel on the Malaysia church work in September and preach at the Cordova Community COC on the second Sunday. Last Sunday I worshipped at the Holmes Road COC where many folks there know Dave Hogan who is held in very high esteem. My Sabbatical is going very well. Sleep at the proper hours and eat well including fruits. Cook my own food in the apartment. Bought groceries last Sunday afternoon at three stores and you think I am opening a mini supermarket. Some food stuff are much cheaper than in Malaysia even after the conversion rate. Whether is still hot in the early 30oC. even though it had been raining in Texas and caused terrible flooding which we prayed for the past week at chapel. Continue to pray for me. OCF
