HAPPY CHINESE LUNAR NEW YEAR!
Brother Chong Fatt will bring us a message this morning on “The Beatitude Of Happiness” (Psalms 1:1-6) from the pulpit. Please continue to bring your colleagues, loved ones and friends to worship with us each Sunday.
SUNDAY ADULT BIBLE CLASS:
Our minister will continue the exciting series on “A Study of the Nature and Work of the Holy Spirit” (8) in the Adults Bible Class this morning. Food For Thought: “The indwelling of the Holy Spirit helps Christians in our attitudes. Attitudes do not come from a vacuum. They are willed by the person possessing them, and the Holy Spirit helps in exercising them. This seems to be the meaning of Paul’s discussion of the fruit of the Spirit: “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such there is no law” (Galatians 5:22-23). The nine attitude attributes listed in this passage are described as ‘fruit of the Spirit.’ This fruit is contrasted to the 15 ‘deeds of the flesh,’ which prohibit us from inheriting the kingdom of God. He then shows how we can overcome the desires of the flesh by walking after the Spirit: ‘But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not carry out the desire of the flesh’ (Galatians 5:16). Walking by the Spirit causes us to possess the fruit of the Spirit.” Come join us in our weekly exciting Bible studies!

FOOD FOR THOUGHT:
In his famous book The Power of Positive Thinking, Norman Vincent Peale includes a chapter entitled, “How to Create Your Own Happiness.” “Who decides whether you shall be happy or unhappy?” he asks. “The answer – you do!” Peale then relates a conversation he had with a couple over dinner in a railway dining car during a trip. The woman was expensively dressed in furs, diamonds, and an expensive dress. But she seemed to be having a most unpleasant time with her self. Rather loudly she declared that the car was dingy and drafty, the service bad, the food terrible. Her husband, in contrast, was genial, affable, easy-going, and pleasant. During dinner, Peale asked the man what business he was in. He said he was a lawyer, then he added, “My wife is in the manufacturing business.” This was surprising, for she did not seem to be the industrial or executive type. So Peale asked, “What does she manufacture?” “Unhappiness,” replied the man. “She manufactures her own unhappiness.” An icy chill descended over the table, but, reflecting on the conversation later, Dr. Peale wrote, “I was grateful for his remark, for it describes exactly what so many people do – they manufacture their own unhappiness.”
